08:00 - 09:00 Continental Networking Breakfast
09:00 - 09:15 Welcome
09:15 - 10:00  Maximizing Return-on-investment and managing risks from cloud computing initiatives
Steven Woodward, CEO, Cloud Perspectives

Cloud computing offers tremendous opportunities and return-on-investment; however, you need to approach this carefully, leveraging industry models in conjunction with good governance practices. This presentation describes the key part of the NIST (National Institute of Standards for Technology) cloud computing frameworks in conjunction with modeling approaches for cloud computing. The potential return-on-investment, with appropriate governance and risk mitigation considerations will be communicated. The presentation will identify the key foundations from some of the industry models that help clarify the cloud computing world.

10:00 - 10:15 Break
10:15 - 11:00 The Transition from Cloud Servers to Cloud Applications
Sam Somashekar, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Kaavo

Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) is becoming the standard platform for running PaaS, SaaS and custom applications. It is a quantum leap for provisioning servers, but it does not by itself allow you to deploy applications in the cloud. A new methodology is required for you to capture the best practice deployment topology of your application, one that is standard across the proprietary interfaces surrounding today's cloud providers. This session will talk about some of the challenges associated with deploying complex applications in the clouds, let alone managing then to ensure that SLAs are met. Through a customer case study, we will also go into an example of how to do this effectively and consistently.

11:00 - 12:00 Business in the Cloud: Mitigating Risk
Fred Pinkett, VP of Security Product Management, Security Innovation

The cloud is a fundamental paradigm shift from our current or past thinking about scalable architecture and security. It's a cost-effective way to provide maximum mobility and accessibility for your customers, but there are security trade-offs: less control of data, new vulnerability classes, and compliance challenges. However, if managed properly, these risks can be mitigated.
This presentation will discuss the challenges of cloud computing, demonstrate how to build a secure and redundant system, and touch upon real-world examples of cloud computing gone bad.

Topics include:

  • Pros and cons of Cloud Computing
  • Trust - is it there when you need it to be? Amazon case study
  • Security controls and building a secure system
  • Redundancy - yes, we still need to think about it. Netflix case study
  • The murky waters of compliance: PCI, GLBA, SAS 70, HIPAA, etc
  • Service Level Agreements (SLAs). How to read them like your business depends on it
12:00 - 13:00 Lunch
